4AGE Clutch 'n Flywheel Experiences

Some time ago, around 4 months i had to replace my stock 4AGE clutch with a new one, since the old one was worn out, it had been in there for more than 25.000 miles and the extra torque provided by the turbocharger didn't exactly help it either..

The 4AGTE started slipping the clutch as soon as i stepped down the throttle a bit, and rev's would shoot up from 3000 to 6000 in a split second, with almost no acceleration at all.

Introducing eBay's: EZClutch

While browsing eBay i noticed a nice clutch kit from a company called "EZ Clutch", they had Stage 1, 2 and 3 kits containing a clutch disc, pressure plate, bearing and a lightweight flywheel all in 1 package.

I went for the Stage 2 kit, it had an uprated clutch disc+pressure plate and a 9.5LBS Chrome-Moly flywheel.

Great! And all that for the price of around 300 dollars (shipping not included), was this too good to be true? I think not!

Build Quality & Installation

After some hours of research and googling (is that even a word!?) i decided to take my chances and buy one!

Build quality was good when this kit arrived, the flywheel had a nice polished surface and the bearing arrived nice and sealed.
One downside i did notice was the alignment tool coming with this kit wasn't completely straight, but that wasn't really a problem.

Every part fits like a glove and no problems occured during installation.

Live Testing

Nothing beats a real test, with the product fitted in the car and going for a test drive.

The clutch really feels good and firm, while not being too stiff.

The lightweight flywheel really makes a different, the original one is really heavy compared to this one and the rev's go up much smoother, also you notice it while redlining it on the road.
And the one thing people always say, a lightweight flywheel makes it hard to drive, or you loose torque going uphill: Not True.

Well, at least, not in my case, driveability hasn't become any more difficult and the idle speed is still very steady.

Conclusion

Well, yes or no? Hell yes!

This kit turned out to be a very good choice, the 4AGTE is now producing around 170BHP & 200NM of Torque at the flywheel and the clutch isn't giving any sign of not holding this power.

Credits go to: EZ Clutch, for selling me such a good kit at a great price!
